Here’s everything you need to know about maintaining your smile after treatment.

Wear Your Retainers – Every Day

Your retainer is your smile’s best friend. After orthodontic treatment, your teeth may try to shift back to their original position. Retainers help hold your teeth in place while the bone and surrounding tissues settle into their new alignment.

Keep Your Retainer Clean

Bacteria and plaque can build up on retainers just like they do on your teeth.

• For removable retainers, clean them daily using a soft toothbrush and lukewarm water.
• For fixed retainers, make sure to floss under the wire using a floss threader or interdental brush.

Maintain Excellent Oral Hygiene

Straight teeth are easier to clean – but don’t get complacent! Continue brushing twice a day for two minutes and floss daily.

See your dentist every six months for routine check-ups and professional cleaning.

Protect Your Teeth During Sport

If you play contact sports, consider a mouthguard to protect your teeth and retainers. Let us know if you need one made to fit your new smile.

Watch Out for Shifting

If you do notice changes in your bite or alignment, contact us early!
