Why consider an early orthodontic assessment?
The Australian Society of Orthodontists recommends that children have their first orthodontic assessment around the age of seven or eight. An early assessment does not necessarily mean your child will need treatment straight away. It helps identify potential concerns and determine the best time to act, if treatment is needed.
Early assessment may help to
Healthy teeth and a confident smile are vital to any child’s health, self-esteem, and well-being. That’s why we want to catch any issues as early as possible to ensure that your little one’s smile doesn’t become a huge problem in the future. In fact, the Australian Society of Orthodontists recommends that an orthodontic assessment should be made from age 7 or 8.
Early treatment may give the orthodontist the chance to:
- Guide jaw growth and development
- Guide permanent teeth into more favourable positions
- Reduce the likelihood of needing permanent teeth extracted
- Lower the risk of trauma to protruding front teeth
- Identify damaging oral habits, including thumb or finger sucking
- Monitor your child’s smile as they grow

STEP 1: Book a Time

STEP 2: Meet Our Friendly Team
You and your child will receive a warm welcome from our Treatment Coordinator, who can answer your initial questions.
STEP 3: Receive a Gentle Screening
Dr Gopal Kataria will assess your child’s developing teeth and jaws to identify whether orthodontic treatment may be beneficial.
STEP 4: Understand the Next Steps
We’ll explain whether your child may need treatment now, later or simply benefit from continued monitoring.
